Goal
The OWL mobile app delivers real-time insights and alerts for on-the-go decision-making. Slow performance, redundant insights, and underutilized alerts and notifications were limiting adoption and a redesign was needed.
Objective
To improve app performance, simplify information architecture, and activate alerts and notifications, helping providers deliver efficient, patient-centered care within a six-month design and development timeframe.

Replaced a cluttered, repetitive list of discharge metrics with a unified dashboard, simplifying the UI and giving providers a clear, department-level view of patient flow.
Consolidated historical, live, and predictive staffing metrics into one location, replacing truncated views with a drag-to-navigate timeline for a continuous, comprehensive overview.

Redesigned alert notifications to reach designated recipients directly, giving care teams faster access to department-related metrics and reducing response time across the medical center.
Redesign of the bed details view, providing a consistent, readable overview of patient insights without exposing PHI.

Reduced a complex, multi-screen flow and simplifying how providers manage multiple regions and facilities.
Designed a dark mode for dim environments, minimizing disruption to patients' sleep and preserving staff night vision without sacrificing readability of critical information.

The OWL redesign improved performance, reduced redundant insights, and activated alerts and notifications, giving hospitalists a faster, clearer tool for managing throughput and reducing staffing costs.
