Goal
Vision Essentials set out to modernize the eyewear shopping experience by replacing a manual, fragmented process with a digital lens selector tool designed for both shoppers and opticians.
Objective
Design an iOS tablet app that enables opticians to guide customers through frame selection, prescription management, and purchase — modernizing the in-store eyewear experience.

Interviewed opticians and observed in-store shopping experiences to identify pain points. Personas, journey maps, and a defined user flow guided the proof of concept for validation.
Designed a HIPAA-compliant patient identifier flow that gives opticians access to patient records without requiring a KP Health System login.




Introduced barcode and SKU entry to initiate shopping, giving opticians access to Vision Essentials' complete inventory across all locations.
Designed a step-by-step lens selection workflow with contextual guidance, helping customers choose the best lenses for their needs.



Optimized the summary view for price transparency, with wishlist and print features that extend the shopping journey beyond the store.
Following user validation and stakeholder approval, the proof-of-concept launched in partnership with the vendor, deploying the app and handheld iPad cases in selected stores for usability testing.
